The TrustScore

Very good

Honest about what it is: a fragrance business wearing body care. The Bum Bum Cream is a decent, well-textured moisturiser and an outstanding scent, and the scent is why it sells. Priced as a treat, not as skincare.

What we think

Very few beauty products are bought primarily for how they smell. Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is one of them — pistachio and salted caramel, unmistakable, and the reason the brand built a business on a single SKU.

Judged as a moisturiser it is good, not exceptional. Judged as the thing people actually buy it for, it is close to unbeatable.

Formulas and ingredients

The Bum Bum Cream has a genuinely good texture: rich, fast-absorbing, no greasy film, and the cupuaçu butter and coconut oil do real work on dry limbs. It is a competent body cream.

The Cheirosa mists are the fragrance line proper, and they are good value against designer body mists.

What it does not do: nothing here addresses keratosis pilaris, eczema, or serious dryness better than a plain urea or ceramide cream at a third of the price. The caffeine-and-guaraná "firming" positioning is marketing — topical caffeine does not firm skin in any lasting way.

Price and value

You are paying a fragrance premium on a body cream. That is a fair trade if the scent is the point, and poor value if you wanted a treatment.

Sensitivity warning

Heavily fragranced, throughout. If you have eczema, reactive skin or fragrance sensitivity, this is the wrong brand and there is no unscented option.

Who it is for

Someone buying a pleasure, not a treatment. On that basis it delivers exactly what it promises.

Pros and cons

What we liked

  • Genuinely excellent texture — rich but absorbs without a greasy film
  • The signature scent is distinctive and long-lasting
  • Cruelty-free and vegan
  • Body mists are good value against designer equivalents

What we did not

  • Heavily fragranced with no unscented option — unusable on reactive skin
  • 'Firming' caffeine claims are not supported by evidence
  • Expensive for what is, functionally, a good body cream

Best for

a body cream you will genuinely look forward to using

Sol de Janeiro FAQs

No. Topical caffeine and guaraná can cause a very short-lived tightening effect through mild dehydration of the surface, but there is no evidence of lasting firming. Buy it as an excellent scented moisturiser, which is what it is.
