Anthelios UVMune 400 Invisible Fluid SPF50+ review
The only sunscreen question that matters
Not "what SPF is it". The question is whether you will actually put on enough, every day, and reapply. An SPF 50 used once a week protects you less than an SPF 30 used properly.
That is the problem this product solves. It is cosmetically excellent enough that daily use is not a chore — no cast on any skin tone, a genuinely dry finish, and it sits under makeup without pilling.
What Mexoryl 400 actually adds
Most sunscreens protect well up to about 380nm and fall away after that. The 380-400nm band — ultra-long UVA — still reaches skin, still generates free radicals, and is a meaningful contributor to pigmentation, particularly in deeper skin tones where melasma is more common.
Mexoryl 400 was developed specifically to cover it. Combined with Tinosorb S and Uvinul A Plus, this is among the broadest UVA protection commercially available. If you are treating pigmentation, this is the sunscreen argument that matters most.
How much is enough
This is where nearly everyone loses most of their protection. SPF is measured at 2mg per square centimetre, which for face and neck is:
- Two finger-lengths squeezed along your index and middle fingers, or
- A generous half-teaspoon
Most people apply about a quarter of that, dropping real protection to roughly SPF 15. Measure it against your fingers once so you know what it looks like.
Where it disappoints
There is alcohol denat high in the list, which gives the fast-drying finish and which some sensitive skins dislike — patch test if alcohol has bothered you before.
The 50ml tube, used correctly, lasts about six weeks. The real annual cost is higher than the sticker.
And the US formulation differs: several of these filters are not FDA-approved, so the American version is a different, weaker product. Buy the EU formulation if you can.
